Wakabacho Wharf is a private art center founded by Makoto SATO, a playwright and a stage director, in June 2017.
The building renovated from a 50-year-old small building located in the downtown of Yokohama, a harbor city, holds a small theater with the capacity of 44 on the first floor (can be used as a gallery), a dance studio on the second floor, and a dormitory space on the third floor. The space on the first floor, which opened as a white box, has transformed into a lively space decorated with wall drawings by local emerging artists, which is named , during the temporary closure due to COVID-19.
Directly experiencing the sign of significant transition of the time, Wakabacho Wharf aims to continue a small and steady step as the face-to-face networking base domestically and internationally, mainly focusing on diverse projects in residence in cooperation with artists from neighboring cities in Asia.
