Kalanari Theatre Movement

Kalanari Theatre Movement is a culture movement institution through theatre. Kalanari using theatre as the entrance (and the exit) to study, interpret, explore, and represent the culture of a society. Theatre is neither for performances creation only, nor for artistic works only; it has noble vision and mission to develop the society culture by emphasize the humanity values. Established at March 8th, 2012, in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, our internal objective (to the theatre) is to reaffirm the bond of performance and society; and the external objective (to the society) is to inspire the people to develop their culture.
Since 2015, we have been taken a lease for a small house with a tiny yard which used as our basecamp and centre of our activities. It’s located in countryside of Yogyakarta. In the front of it, there is a wide enough rice field belong to the landlord. These small house, yard, and the rice filed are our spaces for our daily life, practices, workshops, meetings, discussions, and some performances. The space is managed by Ibed S. Yuga, the artistic director of Kalanari Theatre Movement. Ibed is working as director and playwright in Kalanari as well.

Kalanari Theatre Movomentは、演劇を通した文化活動施設です。ここでは、演劇を社会という文化を学び、解釈し、探求し、表現する入り口（そして出口）と捉えています。演劇は、パフォーマンスや芸術作品のためだけではなく、人間性の価値を高めることによって社会文化を発展させるという高尚な展望や使命を持ち合わせています。2012年3月8日にインドネシア・ジョグジャカルタに設立し、パフォーマンスと社会のつながりを再確認するという内部的目的（演劇に対する）と、人々が文化を発展させることを鼓舞するという外部的目的（社会に対する）をもって運営しています。
2015年以来、ジョグジャカルタ郊外にある小さな庭のある小さい民家を借りて活動拠点として使っています。建物の前には、家主が所有する広大な水田があります。この小さな民家、庭、水田こそ私たちの日々の生活、実践、ワークショップ、会議、議論そしてパフォーマンスのためのスペースです。スペースはKalanari Theatre Movementの芸術監督であるIbed S. Yugaが管理し、Ibedは演出家・劇作家としても活動しています。
